Expensive retail shopping, increased food intake, substance use, and compulsive sexual behaviors are popular choices for emotional distraction. But the consequences of these options often worsen your situation.

Can you really control emotional pain?

It is a widespread belief that we should be able to control any unwanted emotions. Our Society does not openly discuss moods and feelings. Most individuals do not know the importance of brain health in their life. Every organ, even our brains, has unique signs to signal distress.

We often minimize the experience of emotional discomfort. Being overwhelmed is a quick explanation. The thought that these problems may reflect a brain distress signal does not come to mind. But our brain communicates alarm alerts with changes in moods, thinking, and behavior. We cope by seeking ways to remain in control of our uncomfortable emotions.
